Chesham Women 53–15 Chinnor Kites
Beautiful autumn sunshine, perfect rugby conditions and a fiercely competitive game made for a fantastic day of rugby as Chesham Women secured an impressive 53–15 victory over Chinnor Kites.
Chesham started strongly, with Emily Patterson setting the tone through a brilliant tackle, turnover and powerful carry. One of our Under-17s, making her mark on senior rugby from the first whistle.
The opening exchanges belonged to Chesham, with strong possession, good shape, relentless attacking and quick work at the breakdown.
A dominant first half
Millie Tillyer opened the scoring in the corner, followed by captain Dee Grammenos and Ayla Watkins, who finished a superb set-piece move from a line-out maul.
Katie Darvell then powered through Chinnor’s defence to score in the corner. Playing just her second game back after having her second baby, Katie made a huge impact, even finding time to breastfeed before returning to the action. Because women are amazing!
Dee struck again from the restart, catching the ball and running it back under the posts. Following another excellent run from Katie, who was stopped just short of the line, Georgie Evans delivered the pass to Ayla, who powered over for her second try of the half.
Chinnor got on the scoreboard in the 35th minute, exploiting a mismatch in the Chesham defence to score in the corner.
Chinnor fight back, but Chesham hold strong
Chesham carried their intensity into the second half, but Chinnor returned with renewed attacking intent and capitalised on errors to keep the pressure on.
Zoe Duckworth crossed the line for Chesham, before captain Dee Grammenos completed her hat-trick with another try under the posts. Becci Andrews also got on the scoresheet with one of her hard and balanced attacking lines and Chesham continued to find ways through the Chinnor defence.
Chinnor fought hard throughout, taking their opportunities and ensuring Chesham had to work for the result. As fatigue began to show after the hour mark, the hard work put in during the first half proved crucial.
Full-back Louise Rhys Davies converted four tries as Chesham secured a convincing 53–15 victory.
A team that means business
One of Chesham’s standout strengths was the scrum. The pack was dominant throughout, consistently driving Chinnor backwards and providing an excellent platform for the attack.
Huge credit to Stacey Houston, Charlotte Bing and Sam Roburn for an outstanding front-row performance.
The squad also reflected what makes Chesham special, spanning generations from 17-year-olds making their mark on senior rugby to 48-year-old Stags stalwart Vicky Boorman.
Special recognition goes to Becci Andrews, whose performance was so impressive that Chinnor voted her their Opposition Player of the Match. A fantastic compliment from the opposition!
