It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Aaron Mainwaring, who died in Barcelona on Sunday 15th June, at the age of 24.
Aaron began playing rugby for Chesham Stags during his primary school years and immediately showed a real passion and talent for the game.

His two younger brothers, Nico and Joel were also Stags’ players, in 2017 they achieved a remarkable family treble; Aaron was named Stags’ Under 16’s Player of the Year, Nico was the Under 14’s Most Improved Player whilst Joel received the Under 12’s Player of the Year trophy. A proud day for their loving parents David and Fernanda.

Two years later, Aaron was honoured once again—this time as Stags’ Under 18’s Player of the Year.
Aaron's dedication and development continued into senior rugby, after his first season he was deservedly named Stags’ Most Improved Player. The presentation took place during Covid lockdown, coach Kat Merchant had to leave the trophy on Aaron’s doorstep.

Former Stags 2nd XV Captain Andy Deane paid tribute to Aaron:

"Aaron was part of a great group of young players who I coached from U12's through to adult rugby. He was one of the smallest in the group, but he was super quick and a key player in a talented squad. He was great to coach, and I then had the opportunity to play with Aaron, Ollie, Jake and Alfie in their first senior game for the 2nds. Aaron went on to play for the 1st XV and was a Stag through and through”.
Aaron’s Memorial Service will take place at Greenacres, HP9 2XB on Friday 15th August from 1pm until 2.30pm.
This will be followed by a celebration of his life at Amersham & Chiltern RFC, HP6 5QU from 3pm until 8pm. Aaron’s family would like to invite friends and family to share memories and stories
whilst remembering his smile and kindness that brought so much comfort and joy to all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Aaron was a passionate Chelsea FC fan, so the dress code will be: “Blue Is The Colour” or any bright colour rather than black.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in honour of Aaron, if you'd like to make a donation please click on this link:
